Safe Affirmed Youth

SOGIE 102 (SAY002-e)

Description
SOGIE 102 is an advanced course divided into two sessions, both of which are mandatory for full participation. During these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills in using appropriate terminology and definitions when serving individuals with diverse SOGIE. They will also deepen their understanding of how SOGIE is an essential aspect of culture and diversity, recognizing its connection to intersectionality. A key focus of the course is to explore practical ways to incorporate a SOGIE lens into interactions with youth and families. Participants will be equipped with strategies to address their personal discomfort, fears, or biases around the topic. They will also gain the necessary skills to integrate the SOGIE perspective into all aspects of their work. Furthermore, the course will provide participants with the tools to advocate for LGBTQ+ young people and families in educational, healthcare, and community settings. They will learn how to guide individuals toward supportive community resources. SOGIE 102 builds upon the language and vocabulary introduced in SOGIE 101.
