Description
This two-part, self-paced e-learning course is designed for educators, administrators, and all school staff to better support students in kinship care and their caregivers. In Part 1 – Understanding and Supporting Kinship Families, explore the unique challenges these families face and how schools like yours can make a meaningful difference. Part 2 - Trauma, Grief, and Loss for Kinship Families explains how trauma and grief may show up at school, and practical ways to build a more welcoming and supportive environment.

Learning Objectives


By the end of Part 1, participants will be able to:
(1) Define kinship care.
(2) Identify barriers and legal challenges kinship families face.
(3) Apply school-based policies to support kinship families.
(4) Implement welcoming practices to support kinship students and their families.

By the end of Part 2, participants will be able to:
(1) Define trauma and its impact on kinship students and their families.
(2) Recognize common trauma responses in school.
(3) Apply trauma-informed strategies to support kinship students and their families.
